What to do in the event of a claim
In the event of a claim, please call your broker or Community Underwriting as soon as the loss is discovered on 02 8045 2580
If we are not advised immediately, any action you take could prejudice your ability to claim on your insurance policy so we strongly recommend you call your broker or Community Underwriting as soon as possible.
Making a claim - what we need from you
Once you have notified your broker or Community Underwriting of your claim by telephone, a claim form must be submitted.

Depending on the type of claim, some additional information may also be required, as detailed below. To ensure that your claim is processed with minimal delay, please forward the required documentation when submitting your claim:
AFCA and Industry Codes of Practice
Community Underwriting proudly supports the General Insurance Code of Practice. The purpose of the Code is to raise standards of practice and service in the general insurance industry. A copy of this Code is available from the Code’s dedicated website.

Motor Vehicle - owned by your organisation
In the event of a Motor Vehicle accident, please provide:
- One repairer's quotation
- Towing company details (if applicable) and any associated invoices
- Full details of any third parties involved
- Police report number (if applicable)
- Witnesses names, phone numbers and/or addresses (if applicable)
In the event of a theft of a Motor Vehicle, please provide:
- Invoices for hire car costs for up to 14 days or when the vehicle is recovered whichever occurs first
- A copy of the registration certificate
- Police report number (if applicable)
In the event of storm or malicious damage to a Motor Vehicle, please provide:
- One repairer’s quotation
- Police report number (if applicable)
Motor Vehicle - non owned
This section must first be claimed from the responsible volunteer’s or staff member’s insurance.
Please provide:
- Certificate Of Currency from the current vehicle insurer
- Vehicle Registration papers (Proof of Ownership)
- Receipt for the Excess amount charged or repair quote (with excess shown)
- Preferred payment method - EFT or Cheque (If EFT, please forward bank details. Please note, EFT is a faster payment option)
Machinery that is repairable
Please provide:
- A detailed repairer's report
- A copy of the tax invoice for repairs if work has already been completed
Machinery that is not repairable
Please provide:
- A detailed repairers report
- Confirmation in writing from repairer that machinery is not repairable
- A replacement quotation
If stock has perished
Please provide:
- A list of the perished stock with estimated values
- Purchase records as verification of the stock and cost
Please provide:
- Invoice for repair / replacement of glass
- Quotation for sign writing (if applicable)
- Police report number (if applicable)
Damaged Property that is repairable
Please provide:
- A list of the property that has been damaged
- One repairer’s quotation for damaged property
Damaged Property that is not repairable
Please provide a report confirming the condition of the property.
Temporary Repairs to Premises
If you are responsible for the repairs, please provide:
- Invoices for temporary repairs to premises
- A copy of the lease agreement.
Water Damage
If water damages your carpets, please have the carpets dried as soon as possible.
If water damage has stained the carpets please have these cleaned. If still damaged and the carpet cleaning company advises in writing that the stain cannot be removed, please provide one quotation for replacement of the damaged section only.
Malicious Damage
If your property is maliciously damaged or vandalised, report the damage to the Police and provide us with the Police report number.
This section will only apply if there is a loss under the Property Damage section of your policy. For claims of this nature, a loss adjustor will be appointed so any documentation requested by the loss adjustor will need to be supplied.
Please provide:
- Medical reports
- Copies of all non Medicare / health insurance medical invoices
- Copies of all invoices for any out of pocket expenses (eg travel, home help etc).
In the event of an incident occurring that may give rise to a liability claim, do not admit liability under any circumstances.
If you receive any letter, demand and / or documentation from a third party, do not respond.
Forward the documentation to your broker or Community Underwriting immediately and they will arrange for insurers to respond on your behalf.
You should advise your broker or Community Underwriting as soon as you receive any indication that there may be a potential claim, even if this indication is given verbally.

Please provide:
- A list of items that were stolen
- Proof of ownership for the items stolen
- One replacement quotation for the items stolen
- Invoices for temporary repairs to premises (eg repairs to locks / doors) if you are responsible for these repairs and if so, a copy of the lease agreement
- Police report number

- Documentation to substantiate the amount of cash taken. This can be done by providing copies of book-keeping records immediately prior to the theft
